CGK-Woman sent a call to prayer for the General Synod to all affiliated women's associations. We reproduce that letter here with permission.
Dear CGK women,
On 12 October, we met at three locations across the country to meet and listen to God's Word. During the walk there was plenty of time to talk through the theme of Fruit-bearing and how to proceed. It was good to notice that as sisters we were allowed to speak heart to heart with each other. Prayer with and for each other, and related prayer for our churches, also had an important place on this day.
From this experience, we as a board for the past synod week called on you to remember our churches in your prayers. This will certainly have happened, at the associations and also in person. We would like to follow this up during the second meeting week of the synod, from 28 to 31 January. Our idea is to surround this meeting week with our prayers. Realising that in everything, and certainly as far as the issues on the meeting table are concerned, we are deeply dependent on God's Spirit. But also believing that - for Jesus' sake - He hears prayer.
Specifically, our idea is to hold a rural prayer chain form. Hour after hour, various women in different places will then pray for the unity of our churches and for God's blessing on the nefarious. We ask you the following:
- Would you - as a club, Bible study group or personally - like to take care of (at least) one hour of prayer during this week?
- Then send an e-mail to fokkema@cgkvrouw.nl. Please indicate if you have a preference for a particular day(s).
- We collect all responses and try to make a contiguous roster.
- You will receive a message about the time(s) when you will be asked to pray.
- During that hour, you may personally (or as a club, with friends, etc.) bring the needs of our churches to the Lord in your prayers.
Surely it would be wonderful if we could form a chain of prayer throughout the week of the meeting (Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday from 9 a.m.-9 p.m., Friday from 9 a.m.-4 p.m.) and thus, as women, surround this important work with prayer!
In Paul's letters, you constantly read that he calls readers to prayer. In Colossians 4:2 it says:
"Keep strong in prayer, and be vigilant therein with thanksgiving."
Are you praying with us?
A warm greeting on behalf of the board,
