Fernanda Navarro Delgado is a 48-year-old young widow in Nicaragua. She is not well off. For her 25-year-old daughter, who still lives with her, she hopes for a better life and she has a lot to show for it. “As a mother, one of my biggest obligations is to enable my daughter to study. I want her to have a chance for a better future, with a good income.”
Ms Navarro Delgado earns a living doing housework. It is an uncertain source of income as there is not always work. And yet she courageously perseveres, hoping that better times will come one day. “I work hard, with my daughter's welfare and financial peace and security in mind. When I heard that the church would start a hairdressing course, I was immediately excited. This is a chance to learn a real trade and get a stable income! This course means new hope to move forward in life.”
Soon, Ms Navarro Delgado hopes to open her home hair salon. She looks forward to it: “Then I won't have to go out to work. I will keep more time for my family and at the same time I will earn enough to live on.”
The opportunity given to Ms Navarro Delgado in the training project for vulnerable women, she grabbed it with both hands. “I am grateful to the CGK for the support. Through the course, I came into contact with the gospel and got to know the love of God. I am convinced that with faith, hope and commitment, anything is possible. It is never too late to start again!” Diaconate wholeheartedly supports this project.
