In Bubulo, in eastern Uganda, there is a need for skilled workers, but vocational schools do not exist within a 40-kilometre radius of this place. For many young people who would like to learn a trade, that distance is too great. With our partner Shalom Ministries, we are therefore starting a new project: vocational training for young people.
Shalom Ministries has started three classes, where young people can be trained as tailors, carpenters and welders. The classes are taught by qualified teachers.
Who will give Joshua a hammer and Aida a sewing machine?
We need your help to get these young people started. Together, we can provide the youth who have completed the training with the necessary tools so that they can start working right away. We would like to provide sewing machines and sewing equipment to the young people who complete the tailoring training. The youths who choose the carpentry trade need a tool bag that includes a hammer, saw, tape measure, shop hook, plumb line, trowel, and more. And those who successfully complete training as welders can make good use of a welder, files, chisels, hacksaw, vise, and other essential tools.
A total of €17,000 worth of tools is needed. Unfortunately, the government is not providing any support at the moment. Therefore, we are looking for a municipality or youth group that wants to take up this initiative and organise actions for it. Together, we can make a difference! For example, give Joshua and Aida (real names!) a saw for just 10 euros and a sewing machine for 150 euros.
Start an action and make a difference
Diaconate and Shalom Ministries have been working together for years to support widows, orphans and the disabled to obtain a sustainable income (Project OEG146). Let's now also work together to change the future of these young people and give them the chance to learn a trade and build a sustainable income. Your support really makes a difference!
