“Some things are too important not to pass on,” said Rev. Jan Bosch on Sunday at the confirmation of evangelist Cees van Breugel (photo left) and Rev. Wilke den Hertog (photo right). Both were sent out from the Bunde-Meerssen congregation to pioneer in Sittard and Heerlen.

The three brothers each played a part in the preaching during the confirmation and commissioning service on Sunday, 30 November. Based on Luke 5, Rev. Bosch preached on Jesus' words encouraging obedience, humility, and trust. Just as Peter took a chance on God's word and humbled himself when it became clear that Jesus could use him as a fisher of men (despite his initial resistance). Rev. Den Hertog emphasised the power that Jesus has here and now to completely change people's lives. As he did with the paralysed man, in complete contrast to the view at the time that forgiveness of sins was something that could only take place in the future. Evangelist van Breugel concluded with the story of Levi, who was distrusted by everyone but was seen by Jesus. Jesus' words are always inviting. How wonderful that these words can now also be spread further in Sittard and Heerlen!
For several years now, the small missionary congregation of Bunde-Meerssen has had a desire to reach more people with the gospel. To their great surprise, two new pioneers came forward and funds were found through the newly established Pioneers in the South foundation to make their appointment possible. This was symbolically expressed during the service by lighting three candles. May the light of God's gospel shine in Bunde-Meerssen, Heerlen, and Sittard! Soli Deo Gloria!
