The Appeltjes van Oranje are awarded annually by the Oranje Fund to three social projects in the Netherlands and the Caribbean that work towards a society where no one is left alone. It is a popular award. Thuis in West and Assen Bloeit, two diaconal initiatives that originated from the CGK, participated in the election.

"We thank our actherban who took massive action by voting for us," says Cees van Breugel (Thuis in West). Thanks to those votes, both organisations made it to the top ten and were nominated for the award. They were invited to an impressive gathering at Paleis Noordeinde, where the winners would be announced.

"The awards went to three other organisations, but it was great to experience the event and have personal conversations with the king, queen and Princess Beatrix."
