Uganda is a beautiful country on the equator in East Africa. It has one of the youngest populations in the world, more than half of its 44 million people are under 18. For years, the country was plagued by conflict and insecurity. That is now a thing of the past, but the consequences are not, especially for the country's children and youth.

The project

In Bubulo, a town in eastern Uganda, vocational training has been launched by Shalom Christian Ministries, who we know from the project 'Supporting orphans, widows and disabled people'. This is to support young people, including the disabled, in obtaining a sustainable income. We give a toolbox to the youth who have completed the training. For instance, the masons and carpenters get a toolbox so they can start a job right away. The seamstresses get a sewing machine and the hairdresser a hairdressing kit from this project. Will you help get them started right away? On the project page at www.cgk.nl/oeg162 find more information.

Story of a student

Kharunda was born in 2005 into a poor family, with parents who could not give her vocational training. She was eager to learn and Shalom accepted her for vocational training to become a seamstress, especially also because she came from a poor family. She received the training, the training materials from the project. When she completed the training, she was given a sewing machine from the project.

Kharunda: 'I am very happy with all the support I received. Now I can earn a living and meet my basic needs. I can also support my parents. I really like the fact that I was helped so much by Shalom. From them I got a good education and a sewing machine to do this work.'
