The relief team of our partner ACN went 10 - 14 November to 3 villages that were badly affected. In these villages, 42 people died immediately after the earthquake and again later 15 more died in hospital. In these villages, more than 11,000 people were directly affected (about 3,500 families). Exact data is yet to come, the mayor of the municipality said.
120 mothers received a package especially for young families, 135 families from remote areas received food and winter packages and 460 families received tarpaulins (tents). We were the first to provide food and non-food packages. The beneficiaries greatly appreciate the package they received as it is the complete package with necessities for daily living. This will help 3-4 weeks with food and winter clothes to get through the winter. It is festival time and they all arrive right on time. The mayor, head of district coordination and vice-mayor also said they heard that the beneficiaries are very happy with the deliveries.
Ps Avinash Budha Magar, president of the district Christian community, his son Anuvav and brother Rabindra from the local churches, Ps Ramesh, Ps Dambar helped us. Ps. Avinash and Anuvav came from the headquarters, Khalanga, to help us with distribution.
After we handed over all the supplies, we had a brief meeting with the mayor, the head of the district coordination committee and the vice-mayor. They appreciated the way we gave assistance, visited the communities and worked with the local district chairmen. The mayor asked us to help fill the gaps and continue working on temporary shelter, rehabilitation and reconstruction.
We meet the INF team, assess needs and plan next steps. Winter-proofing is another gap currently being highlighted. We will definitely provide temporary shelter support. There will be good news about funding options for the next steps. Depending on needs and funding, we will plan and share with you.
