The deputation provides pastoral care to boaters and their families.
Boaters lead irregular and nomadic lives; they are always on the move. As a result, they can only attend church in their home congregation on few Sundays. Of congregational life, they miss much. Worship services are held in Mannheim, Germany.
Not only skippers, but also seafarers receive missionary, pastoral and diaconal attention. Seafarers are sometimes away from home for as long as six to 12 months. Because the crew is often from different countries, loneliness prevails. On the Moerdijk, a seaman's house where sailors are welcome and can Skype with their families. There are Bibles for them in their own language.
