In D'kar, in Botswana's Ghanzi district, Rev Gaobolelwe Ngakayaya has lived for many years. He retired a few years ago, but the only thing that changed then is that he started living off his pension. He never stopped working - and is always coming up with new ways to reach people with the good news.
Life is not easy for him as the pension is only small. Fortunately, his wife is still working. Hunger need not be there. But Rev Ngakayaya still longs to go out. To the squatter camp in Ghanzi, to the people in Qabo, to the people on a few farms in the area. He does not always have money for diesel, so he cannot always go to 'his' people. Still, he manages to reach them.
Bible study with WhatsApp
With a few people in D'kar, he holds short Bible studies. Conversations about a Bible passage become that. These conversations are not monologues; the group participants really participate. Meanwhile, on the table between the conversation partners, there is Rev Ngakayaya's phone. With that, he records the conversation, and he sends those recordings to the people in a WhatsApp group. That way, people in Qabo, in Ghanzi, or in other places, experience the Bible study, and can reflect on it themselves. And they can easily forward the conversations to yet others.
Desire to share the gospel
This does not appease Rev Ngakayaya's desire to be able to go out, but at least he does not give up easily. Why not? Once, as a little boy, he heard the story of Jesus leaving heaven to seek and save sinners. That touched him as a child and he has never lost the desire to tell others about that loving Lord.
