A report by Rev A.A.L. Aalderink
Just today, the synod met for the final reports that need to be dealt with. Beforehand, the question is raised whether all this still makes sense, now that we are putting the responsibility back to the local congregations, as the synod is no longer able to deal with it itself. The moderation committee is sticking to the agenda. Discussion of the reports does not occupy much time.
Around noon, it is time for the official closing. Speeches by the presiding Rev Buijs and the assessor follow. There are thanks for many people, not least for the ministry: all the volunteers who helped, we lacked nothing.
It is nice in itself that the synod, with all the work involved, is coming to a close, but of course: sadness over the outcome prevails, along with fears of chaos.
May the Lord have mercy.
