A report by Rev A.A.L. Aalderink

Today, we are continuing what we did not get around to yesterday, namely speaking and voting on the proposals as to whether and how, in what form, our church affiliation can take shape in the near future.

The intention to deal with some reports in the afternoon will once again not succeed, as the discussion on the future again requires much more time than previously estimated.

The discussion at one point turns to the method of voting. Last session week, the moderation stated that voting on the interim model should achieve eighty per cent of the votes. That vote did not pass then, but it must now be determined whether that eighty per cent should now be maintained or not. After voting, the meeting determines that eighty per cent is needed for this important vote.

After polling, it appears that the necessary majority for the model is in danger of not being achieved. This is (partly) due to the fact that several amendments are rejected first. This makes the proposal appear not to be bearable for several delegates. This is evident from the various explanations of vote given between the poll and the vote. In the end, it appears that the required 80 per cent is not achieved.

This only deepens the crisis even more, the chairman said. The meeting was closed for the day after Bible reading and prayer by Prof Kater.

How things will go tomorrow, and in the (near) future; only God knows. May He have mercy.
