Around the general synod, the National Contact Youth Work (LCJ) a series of videos and a podcast on topics of concern within the Christian Reformed Churches. In 'Hot Hangers', young people's questions get honest answers.

"Where one young person is deeply concerned about developments in their own church affiliation, the synod completely ignores another for the time being," observes Marieke Griffioen, senior youth work adviser at the LCJ. "But every young person within our denomination is affected by the decisions made at the synod. With 'Hot Hangers', we want to be there for our young people and try to deal simply and honestly with the various issues on the table."

The 'Hot Hanging Irons' series addresses questions the LCJ hears young people ask. Questions such as: Can't a woman just be a good minister? Is the church now more about people's opinions than faith in the Lord Jesus? And can we move forward together without agreeing on everything? Around all these questions, young people with a diversity of views are featured. Prof H. van den Belt, Rev H. Polinder and IKC youth work advisor Lydia van Ginkel will search for answers, based on Scripture and confession.

Rev H. Polinder collaborates on the podcast as pastor and board chairman of youth organisation LCJ. "The sad situation in our denomination confuses the hearts of our young people. The honest questions they ask demand answers. I hope the podcast can give young people clarity on what is going on in our churches and why these are not mediocre issues. The authority of Holy Scripture is at stake. The speaking of the Holy Spirit is being subordinated to the voice of the zeitgeist. Church order is being abandoned. These are poignant developments to which young people -and older ones, for that matter- are not immune. In 'Hot Hanging Irons' we want to let Scripture and confession resound. In the desire that young and old feel addressed by the eternal and unchanging Word of God."
