The Interchurch Knowledge Centre (IKC) recently launched the platform Singing from the Source. This platform helps Christian families connect a new generation of children and young people with the rich content of psalms and spiritual songs.
Singing from the Source contains material for parents and educators to discover the depth and scope of the psalms together with their children. Original processing assignments and discussion questions aimed at children and young people support this. Professional music videos invite them to actively sing along and make these faith texts their own.
Compare texts
A special feature on the platform is the advanced psalm comparison tool. It allows users to easily compare the psalm rhythms of 1773 and Rev C.J. Meeuse with the new Classical Contemporary Psalm (KEP) and the Bible texts in the (H)SV translation. This will allow them to see the different versions side by side and delve into the rich content of the psalms.
New psalms
Coinciding with the launch of Singing from the Source, the IKC is releasing three new psalms in the KEP rhyming. This rhyming stays close to the source text and is aimed at the hearts of children and young people. Starting today, Singing from the Source will be enriched monthly with new KEP psalms and/or spiritual songs.
With Singing from the Source, the IKC aims to pass on the treasure of psalms and songs to a new generation. The IKC launched the Singing from the Source project in 2024 after the organisation identified that across the breadth of the Reformed denomination, singing in families is under pressure. The Singing from the Source project aims to be a constructive response to this.
