ZAM127 Training of teachers
project description
In the rural areas of Zambia more than 50% of the population is illiterate. Whoever cannot read, cannot find a job easily. For those people, it will be hard to break the downward spiral of poverty. Zambian Mission Support supports 20 schools in the surroundings of Petauke. Volunteers of several villages are getting acquainted with educational skills. They learn to teach the local language to their own children.
why this project?
Marianne Hendriksen was sent to Zambia in 2007 by the congregation of Nunspeet, Netherlands. She is working for the Zambian Mission Support, which aims at sharing the Gospel, agricultural training and education. Last year Marianne asked the deputies for financial support for the education project. Communities who want to start a school, can ask assistance from Marianne and her team. The team provides trainings and education packages.
impact?
Throughout the years the project already arranged the beginning of 35 schools. On a regular basis new schools are started. However, sometimes a school cannot continue to function, since parents do no contribute anymore to the school. Not only children profit from these projects. Also the community / village as a whole can profit, when all people work together for the school.
