The latest issue of *De Wekker* opens with a reflection by Rev. W. van ’t Spijker on mission. Van ’t Spijker highlights three things we can learn from the way Jesus sent out his disciples: “Jesus did not say: ”Go and sit in your studies thinking about how things should be done.’” Rev. W.M. den Hertog, a pioneer in Heerlen, is sent out on a mission. He tells the story of a young man who sought him out. An example of how Jesus is still at work, even in the Netherlands.

Rev. J.G. Schenau, too, recognises that God works in marvellous ways. During an overnight stay in hospital, he did not have the energy to seize an opportunity to talk about the Gospel. But God provided another opportunity.

God’s greatness is also evident in *Woordwerk*. The name ‘God my Banner’ takes centre stage here. Moses gave an altar that name after Israel learnt in the wilderness that victory does not depend on human strength, but on God’s presence. What is a banner, and why is this a fitting name for God?

In *Generations in the Church*, 42-year-old Rianne shares her story. She was on the verge of giving up on going to church, until she learnt ‘to fix her eyes on Jesus’. “For me, faith means saying ‘amen’ to the sacrifice He made,” she now testifies.

In light of the recent heatwave, Rev. W.L.W. Kater takes a look at the ‘Code Red’ alert. The national warning says a great deal about how we deal with risks. How should we, as Christians, view risks?

In *Pastoraal*, Rev. M. Oppenhuizen then responds to a 21-year-old man who, despite his confession of faith, continues to feel guilty about things he did before he came to faith. “How do I learn to forgive myself?” he wonders.

This issue also includes an obituary for Rev. W. van Sorge. It also features an article on the 25th anniversary of Rev. P.L.D. Visser’s ordination and a note on the appointment of Prof. Dr W.A. Zondag as professor. This issue does not contain any classis reports.
