This edition of The Alarm Clock features God's care in the past and the hope He offers for the future in many articles.

Rev Hakvoort opens the paper with an impetus about national peace and freedom giving us space as churches. The Wekker continues with Jesus’ statement that He is the light for the world. This statement has its origins in the Feast of Tabernacles. Rev Soeters explains what the feast has to do with the statement. Another comparison is covered in the Word Work series. Rev Aalderink describes how “the Lord my Shepherd” appears in both the Old and New Testaments.

Signpost Camps Foundation is 50 years old. How has the foundation developed over the years? And what is a youth camp like? Find out in an interview with the founder and current director. “When the children come back home to their parents, things have changed” says founder Ernst van Rij.

New to De Wekker is columnist Corline schouten. In her first contribution, she introduces herself and writes, among other things, about praying with Lego bricks. Jeannet de Jong writes in her column why she would rather hang a cross on the wall than a tile.

In Nader bekeken, Rev Hakvoort gives his reflections on the situation of the church body in relation to the mandate of deputations and committees. In the Pastoral section, Rev Droger then answers the question of a man who lost his wife two years ago.

Classis reports

The meeting of the Utrecht classis was largely dominated by the tensions in the church community. Not all congregations were represented. No delegates to the private synod were therefore elected. Other topics included missionary work and local situations.

The Rotterdam classis began its meeting with the examination of Br Marc de Gooijer for the ministry of evangelist. After the positive result, De Gooijer received the ‘declaration of competence’. For this, those present thanked God. The delegates to the Private Synod of the South were then elected and the reports on the agenda were discussed.
