Train disciples is the theme of the latest issue of Doorgeven. This is the second issue in the series, in which the five characteristics of mission are examined one by one.
Rev. P.L.D. Visser explores what the Bible teaches us about discipleship. The stories in this issue then show that God uses all sorts of different means through which people can help one another to grow in faith and live as followers of Jesus. For example, we read about a vocational training course in Uganda and a nursing training programme in Senegal, in which serving God runs like a common thread through the lessons.
In KwaNdebele, many church members saw missionary work as the task of evangelists, not as a task for themselves. This prompted Rev. Nefefe to set up courses. “We should have done that much sooner!”, he says. In Mamasa, Indonesia, too, churches are working on discipleship and fostering a sense of mission. Despite legal restrictions, the Reformed churches are not deterred.
In the Netherlands, too, people are committed to helping others grow in their faith. The Van den Berg and Vennik couples swapped the Randstad for South Limburg. What motivated them to move and make a fresh start?
Ali and Amira were baptised in Assen earlier this year. Pastor Gert van den Bos explains how God revealed Himself to them and led them to Assen. We also hear the story of Siem from Haarlem. He was fourteen when he began his search for God. The local CGK played a major role in his journey to get to know God. How can we help our young people to grow in faith?
