The latest issue of the magazine Doorgeven covers a topic that dominates the news and concerns us all to varying degrees: war and peace.

From Kees-Jan Hooglander, deputy diaconate and emergency aid coordinator, we learn that peace is more than the absence of war. It is living in harmony with God, each other and creation. Such harmony is sorely lacking in our world. We are asked to be peacemakers, but how do you do that?

Evangelist Oleg Lyubich has lived and worked in Russia for many years. A Ukrainian and pacifist, he knows from experience how difficult it can be to keep the peace. Watch your words, stay calm and pray, is his advice.

A peacemaker or connector chooses the colourful middle. That is not necessarily easy, evangelist Jurjen ten Brinke shows. And certainly not pouty.

Churches in Mozambique are facing soaring tensions due to political instability, among other things. Rev Teixeira emphasises the power of prayer and writes how the church can be a beacon of hope and peace in such a situation.

Everyone can make something visible of God's peace in their own environment. It starts with small things. Examples are on page 21.

Peace be to you all, who are in Christ Jesus. (1 Peter 5:14)
