It has been a while since Haiti was hit by a devastating earthquake. That was in 2021. You responded quickly to our appeal for help and together we raised as much as two hundred thousand euros. Due to various circumstances, it took a very long time before reconstruction work started. We can now happily report progress.
Chaos and scarcity
After the earthquake, chaos reigned in Haiti. There were riots. There was a shortage of everything and importing relief supplies was not easy. Building materials were not always available and roadblocks, fuel shortages and looting gangs made transporting them a nightmare.
Working together for recovery
Despite the challenging conditions, our partners managed to help affected families, prioritising the elderly and people with disabilities, in various ways. Local construction workers worked with our partners' engineers. Families helped a provided materials. With combined efforts, forty-two houses were built. Small, but safe. New water reservoirs were built, bringing water back to the villages. And schools were rebuilt.

Grateful for a new home
The families helped have now moved out. They can sleep again without getting wet when it rains and without worrying about their house collapsing. They recognise that the hand of God has made this possible.
On behalf of these people in Haiti, we thank you very much for your involvement. If you would like to receive more detailed information, please contact diaconal counsellor Rev Erjan van der Linde.
