The annual report of the Evangelisation Deputation for 2023-2024 has been published. In gratitude, we look back on a year in which we were able to work together on our missionary vocation.

Relaunch and growth

Scattered throughout the country we see beautiful movements in which churches are missionary present in their surroundings. We were able to support these movements with, for example, the mission challenge, intervision groups and tailor-made coaching. We are very grateful for the missionary restart of some small congregations, such as Delfzijl and Rotterdam-Centrum. We were able to see new pioneering sites germinate, such as in Haarlem and South Limburg, and guide existing initiatives in their growth.

Church together in God's mission

With a number of other deputations, we reflected on how we can be church in a changing society. The report Church in Missions is a reflection on how we, as churches, can let the light of Christ shine in a country that has now become a mission field. In all this work, we wholeheartedly join Elder Anne Harkema from Delfzijl, who said, "It's nice that everything is sort of taken care of for us by God. That gives a piece of peace."

Praying and working

Many thanks to everyone who has been involved in deputations on evangelism, in whatever way. Being a missionary church is "a matter of folded hands to prayerfully discover in what ways God engages people in the coming of his kingdom," writes chairman Rev Rein den Hertog in his foreword. We look forward to a new year of service in God's mission. Let us continue to pray and work together so that more and more people may come to know Jesus.
