Hessel and Coby Visser worked in Botswana since 1991, where they focused on Bible translation work. Since 1 April 2026, Hessel has retired. The couple therefore hopes to permanently return to the Netherlands this summer. Last April, the farewell ceremony in Botswana took place. Mission consultant Rev Arjan Witzier and deputies Rev Willem van ’t Spijker and Rev Henk Polinder attended and came back with beautiful images.
The farewell in Botswana
The farewell was a festive occasion with speakers, music and gifts. The celebration appropriately began with what could be called a farewell gift from Hessel and Coby: the presentation of simple family Bible in the Naro. There were also many words of thanks - to Hessel and Coby and to God. Many memories of the past 35 years were recalled.
This video will give you an impression of the farewell:
The farewell in the Netherlands
Later this year in the Netherlands, we also plan to bid farewell to Hessel and Coby in their positions as mission workers. More information will follow in due course.
