Bethel Church is a contemporary and diverse faith community with over eight hundred members. We are welcoming and active, rooted in and committed to the city of Leeuwarden and its surroundings/region. Our motto is: Heart for God, heart for people.

We are looking for a Church worker for pastoral care. It is an appointment until the end of the year, 12-16 hours per week, with a possibility of extension.

What will you do?

Looking after each other is important to us. This is fulfilled by our pastor in cooperation with the church council pastorate, pastoral visitors and the Sisterhood Circle. In close cooperation with our minister and the task force, you work in pastoral care.

What do we ask?
  • Provide pastoral care, including focusing on the sick, bereavement counselling and psychological distress through visitation and crisis counselling.
  • Preparing and conducting funeral services and providing pastoral care to the bereaved.
  • Together with the pastor, equip the pastoral elders and pastoral staff.
  • The opportunity to share and/or preside at Sunday worship several times a year.
  • Submit copy for our church magazine 'Lichtkegel'.
Who are you and what do we expect?

You are a professional who takes the initiative for pastoral contact in the congregation and has sufficient theological baggage to provide pastoral guidance to congregation members in their diversity of religious experience. We are looking for someone who:

  • Has a living faith in the Lord Jesus and feels at home in the Reformed faith tradition.
  • Possesses empathy and from there knows how to support, connect and inspire people;
  • Be involved and actively participate in our church congregation as much as possible;
  • Has good communication skills and is willing to work constructively with the pastor, ministers and other volunteers involved;
  • Can work independently and is flexible in time management and availability.
Education and experience
  • A completed college/university education;
  • Affinity with elderly chaplaincy;
  • Experience in presiding at funeral services is an advantage.
What do we offer?
  • A pleasant collaboration with our pastor, the church council and many volunteers in a welcoming, active, engaged faith community that carries you in its prayers as you work.
  • Employment of 12 to 16 hours per week.
  • An appointment until the end of this year, with a possibility of extension.
  • Attractive working conditions, remuneration is based on the grading for church workers of the PKN.
  • VOG is part of the application process.
