Gap in assistance
Recently, President Trump decided that, as of 1 February, all aid provided by USAID is given, to be suspended for at least three months. This will have a huge impact on aid delivery in Sudan, where there is a massive humanitarian crisis. There is already far too little humanitarian aid entering Sudan, this is a blow that directly affects the most vulnerable. Other aid agencies are trying to fill the gap, but it is not easy.
Refugees want to go back
Many displaced people want to return home now that the Sudanese army has retaken territory from the rebels. The security situation has not necessarily improved, but they are not letting that stop them. Aid workers are trying to assist people to return.
Refugees returning to rebuild their lives, as well as those left behind who could not flee during the war because of illness or old age, need food. Diaconate supports five community kitchens, from which fifteen hundred people can be provided with a daily meal. Furthermore, aid to a large number of families is also made possible by us.
Our help is still needed
Thank you for all the help you have given so far. From our churches we were already able to give €160,000 in emergency aid. We are very grateful for that! Yet we boldly ask if you can do even more. Would you as a diaconate like to hold another relief collection for Sudan and/or donate personally? It is so much needed.
