The General Synod decided in 2021 to create a 'Crisis Management Group'.
The immediate cause was the corona crisis. Our churches appeared not to be well prepared
are on a national crisis that also directly affected church life.
To avoid that in the event of a new emerging crisis, there would be ambiguity about
responsibilities, the direction group appointed by the General Synod is at work
gone to establish a standard protocol. The mandate given by the synod to the
direction group has given reads as follows: ´to appoint a committee of five people to
is mandated to find ways in cases of social crisis (such as the corona crisis) to
point in communication with churches and serve the churches with adequate advice
on how local churches can act in such a situation'.
With this mandate, the steering committee set to work and drafted this protocol which
will serve as a guide when a crisis occurs. The starting point is a flowchart
in which step by step the activities to be carried out are listed. For each step
included what should be undertaken, who is responsible for the
relevant step and who will take charge of implementation.
All possible organisations, agencies, deputations, etc. to be involved are informed
of their responsibilities. Contacts and details are also known. Annually,
the protocol will be discussed and -if necessary- updated. This both in terms of the
flowchart as well as the names and contact details of persons to be involved.
This protocol has been drawn up in the hope of never needing it. If it does become necessary, then
it can help to better manage crisis situations.
