Within our churches, we believe it is important that diaconal work is well safeguarded. To this end, two instruments have been established in the classis: the Classic Diaconal Assembly (CDV) and the Classic Diaconal Commission (CDC).
Clerical Diaconal Assembly (CSP)
The CSP is a meeting of delegates from all the diaconates in a classis. Joys and concerns in the diaconate are shared and those present support each other with advice and encouragement. An inventory is also made of the areas in which there is a need for (more) information and/or training. The CSP has the authority to do whatever is necessary to promote diaconate in and through the classis churches.
The CDV finds its basis in Articles 26 and 41 of the Church Order. The organisation and leadership of the CSP is usually in the hands of the CDC or a moderation committee elected by the CSP.
Diaconal matters discussed include:
- matters covered by Article 41 of the Church Order;
- matters brought in from the classis meeting;
- issues raised by the CDC;
- Matters brought in by a local diaconate.
In view of the first point, each deaconry submits a report on the diaconal state of affairs prior to the CSP, in the form of the so-called Article 41 letter.
The CSP reports to the classis meeting and prepares any proposals on diaconal matters. This includes the nomination for deacons to be delegated to the PS.
The agenda of most CSPs is divided into two main items: discussing the progress of diaconal work in response to Article 41 letters and discussing a substantive topic.
In the Church Order, Annex 1.29 contains regulations for the CSP.
