It was a time of celebration in Botswana, and not just because it was Easter. The Family Bible in Naro is ready! The Family Bible contains the most important Bible stories in accessible language. The book is intended for children and adults who are encountering the Bible for the first time. At a festive gathering, each church was given a number of copies to sell in their local area. They can use the proceeds to support their own church work.
Grateful for your continued trust
Translating the Bible into a language that, until recently, did not exist in written form is a long and sometimes arduous process. After a number of difficult years, the translation work is back on track and confidence in the Naro Language Project has been restored. The team has been strengthened by the addition of a new translator, and collaboration within the team has visibly improved. Board members received training on their roles and responsibilities, enabling them to better supervise and support the work.
The New Testament was completed in 2012. At the current rate of progress, the complete Bible translation is expected to be finished in 2031. Everyone involved, including the Mission Deputies, is very grateful for this positive development.
Reasons for prayer, too
Alongside gratitude for the translation work, there are serious concerns about the shortage of ministers for the Naro congregations of the Reformed Church of Botswana. We are hearing from ministers and church councils that few young people are willing to enter the ministry. The churches are considering new ways of training and mentoring local church workers.

It appears that, as well as spiritual nourishment, the communities also need socio-economic support. That is why we are exploring ways to encourage, for example, the setting up of small-scale businesses.
