Commissioned by the General Synod, the Deputation organises meetings in which workers in healthcare and/or pastoral care (and other interested parties) are equipped in matters relating to pastoral care and sickness/health. The practical organisation is in the hands of the equipping section.

Evenings of reflection

In the period between two general synods, evenings are organised around a chosen theme in the field of pastoral care and health care. Earlier, there were also national meeting days, in recent years only an evening was organised.

Usually, the evening is introduced by a relevant expert speaker who provides an introduction and then leads a discussion with experts by experience. There is also an opportunity for attendees to ask questions of speaker or experience experts.

Themes covered in recent years:

  • depression
  • mourning
  • anointing of the sick
  • dilemmas in healthcare choices
  • addiction problems
  • domestic violence
  • dementia
